Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie Part 2 Opens Tomorrow in Japan

The Final Movie Part 2 of Sound! Euphonium hits Japanese screens tomorrow, September 11, 2026. It concludes the long-running franchise with a wrap on theatrical series. Released by Kyoto Animation, it follows Kumiko Oumae and her concert band as they leave their tough Kansai Competition behind to face their next challenge: the National Competition. The film will be screened nationwide in Japan; more than 200 theatres will screen it, making it one of the major events for the franchise that has been running for over a decade. Following the television release of Sound! Euphonium 3 in 2024, The Final Movie project was created to retell Kumiko's last year through new content for theatres.

Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie Part 2 featuring Kumiko Oumae ahead of its September 11, 2026 Japanese release
Sound! Euphonium: The Final Movie Part 2 opens across Japan on September 11, bringing Kumiko and Kitauji's journey toward its conclusion.

The main plot of the second movie Kitauji getting closer to the National Competition audition where the winners will perform is depicted through the characters of Kumiko, Reina and Mayu. The girl who is leading their band, the main character, is still trying to achieve her personal dual goals. One is to direct the girl's group to become a gold medalist at the National Competition and the other is to join Reina in a dual soli performance as president. As for Mayu, apart from having to resolve her inner conflict of whether she should be a leader who is fun loving and wants to make everyone perform or the merit based selection system of Kitauji for the instrumentalists, this inner conflict between the two sides adds a new dimension to the last audition while showing how the themes of coming of age, drama and music intersect with the portrayal of characters relationships in the characters that the anime series features.

Kyoto Animation hasn't only re presenting episodes from Sound! Euphonium 3 for theater, they've also upgraded the animation quality from the television version. Beyond that, Jukki Hanada has written a new screenplay with multiple entirely new scenes including music performances that were never shown in the TV series. Tatsuya Ishihara, the long time anime animator, is the chief director, and Taichi Ogawa will direct the movie. They're focusing on the sounds as well: screenings with 7.1 channel audio and Dolby Atmos at supported theaters have been confirmed as the technical upgrade for a franchise, where concert band performances are fundamental to the experience.
