Square Enix and Disney, jointly have made public the Kingdom Hearts IV release date for late 2027, so this will be a first officially released period for Kingdom Hearts new sequel, after a long time of waiting. The news was delivered within D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026, together with the unveiling of an extended trailer showcasing not one but two worlds inspired first and foremost by Disney/Pixar's Coco. Sora, of course, is still the main character, whose adventure starts off in the unknown city of Quadratum and after that continues the exploration through the worlds drawn from the creative minds of Disney as well as Pixar.

The upcoming role-playing video game is the brainchild of Square Enix with help from Disney through their collaboration. Such a teamwork has continued over time and has brought Kingdom Hearts to life with each and every new game. Sora is still at the epicenter of the plot while Heartless are challenging Quadratum in the meantime. Donald Duck and Goofy are also coming into the larger adventure for the very reason that the partnership between Disney, Pixar and Square Enix has resulted in the creation of unique stories of the different worlds of these two big corporations and their characters being combined with the original characters and mythology of the Kingdom Hearts universe.

As the KINGDOM HEARTS series approaches its 25th anniversary, a new adventure begins.

The 2027 release window is only part of a larger expansion for Kingdom Hearts. Square Enix also announced an original Kingdom Hearts anime series being developed for Disney Channel and Disney+, in collaboration with franchise creator Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix's creative team. Together, the new game, Coco world and animated project signal a major new era for the franchise as it approaches its 25th anniversary, with Kingdom Hearts IV positioned as the centerpiece of that expansion and one of Square Enix's biggest upcoming RPG releases.
