Nintendo has confirmed the release of a full remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2, set for November 5, 2026. This announcement coincided with the Nintendo Legend of Zelda Direct 40th Anniversary where veteran series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed an initial glimpse at gameplay. Initially published on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, Ocarina of Time is to have all new visuals while keeping intact the exploration and adventure in Hyrule that were so key to setting up the 3D Zelda. Describing the venture as a new life for Link's legendary journey in modern times, Nintendo makes it the first of the series that's entirely developed for the new machine.

It's quite clear still that the remake isn't just a higher resolution version of the game but also one with an entirely different approach. Based on Nintendo, it will include fully voiced cutscenes, more in depth character interactions, music that will be performed by a full symphony orchestra, and revised character control and camera movement schemes. The gameplay footage released during the 20th year celebration show displayed a camera that could be freely moved around as Link wandered around well known areas, and Link is given the freedom to perform jumps without having to depend solely on the contextual jumping system of the original Nintendo 64 game. One of the other new things that Nintendo added was the Threads of Time feature that will guide players without changing the exploration centered nature of the game by showing how players could reach their next destination (and what time) without completely spoiling the game.
Besides being the biggest title in the lineup for the Switch 2, the Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time release scheduled for November becomes especially important in relation to the 40th anniversary of the game series, for which the title will become the main event. Being Nintendo's own store, the price for the game is predicted at $59.99, however, according to the leaked information from the presentation, the price of the game in its boxed version may reach $69.99. As for the physical print run from Nintendo, the game will come with special foil packaging. The Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time will come out just a week after the release of the limited edition Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console with accessories, available since October 29. November 5 is one of the most important dates in the Nintendo history as they attempt to return the iconic Hyrule through a full-fledged Nintendo 64 game experience with new generation graphics, soundtrack, voices, controls and features for the Switch 2 only.
