Insomniac Games, Marvel Games, and Sony Interactive Entertainment are collaborating on a very mature, story-driven action-adventure game that features one of Marvel's most popular characters: Wolverine from the X-Men. It will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and come out in September 2026. James "Logan" Howlett is a main character of the game who left "Team X" three years earlier. Wolverine has no choice but to go into action again when Bolivar Trask starts capturing mutants. He is a catalyst in the escalating war between humans and mutants. In its gameplay style, this Marvel movie-style game with Wolverine as the lead is more like a movie adventure rather than being played in an open environment like Insomniac's previous Spider-Man adventures where the player could roam the city with freedom.
Combat places Wolverine's claws and mutant powers at the center of the action. Insomniac is all about the raw power, the close range attacks, the kicking, the critical moves, and the really bad ass finishers. They are not only showing Logan's violent side through the game's depiction of Marvel'st Wolverine: the game features blood gore dismemberment, and extremely physical combat that is supposed not only to reflect such traits of the character but also offer a completely different gameplay experience if you switch to Spider-Man at anytime. You will have the option to minimize the blood and the dismemberment level to the extent you find them too much for you, while the availability of a vast range of game accessibility settings includes game speed adjustments, combat assisting features, navigation help, dodge and parry timing options and other customization aspects.
After all, the story is not going to restrict Wolverine to one place. Logan is expected to cross borders and visit different places from Canada to Japan and one of the most famous Marvel's island nations Madripoor where Wolverine has had some of the most dangerous and memorable adventures. He will not only face off against his enemies but also get his friends mutants involved through Team X and Logan's past that will be coming back on him. Only available on PlayStation 5, Marvel's Wolverine hits stores with two versions Standard and Digital Deluxe on September 15, 2026. Besides the campaign, Insomniace will have various features like New Game Plus, Mission Replay, Nightmare Challenge, Photo Mode, more styles, and higher levels cap. All these features, which are great enough to entice gamers to return even after completing Logan's main narrative, will make the game even more addictive. On the launch day, players could also expect the release of PS5 hardware and accessories with the Wolverine theme by Sony. The blend of cinematic storytelling, intense gameplay, Marvel characters, and the tech designed mainly for the PS5 makes Marvel's Wolverine a great opportunity to open dark line of Marvel PlayStation games.
