A new animated series inspired by the video game franchise Diablo is being created by Netflix and Blizzard Entertainment. The announcement was made at BlizzCon 2026, a conference held on September 12th, dedicated to their upcoming products within the Diablo universe. Unlike a live-action movie, the creators opted for animation to explore more fantasy elements in the world filled with demons, angels, and people battling for survival.

The world of Diablo has been providing decades' worth of background for the new Netflix show. The main setting is Sanctuary, which exists between High Heavens and Burning Hells. Various games like Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo III, and Diablo IV add to the mythological background with various characters such as Diablo, Lilith, Inarius, Tyrael, and the Nephalem. However, Blizzard did not hint at any game being the basis for the new show, leaving an opportunity to create an original storyline taking place in Sanctuary. At this point, we can only guess about the plot of the animated series, as Blizzard hasn’t revealed any information yet about its storyline.
The production of the show is noteworthy as a major collaboration between Blizzard Entertainment and Netflix, two companies known for working on video game adaptations. The president of Blizzard Entertainment, Johanna Faries, revealed details about the project during BlizzCon. While more information has yet to be released, there are currently no official release dates or trailers for the adaptation. Little else is known about other aspects of the production process.
